Opening Keynote I: "The Rapidly Changing Hospitality World" with Michael Dominguez

What do planning professionals need to stay successful in a rapidly changing hospitality world? Michael Dominguez's in-depth look at how the economy has changed the way hotels do business will provide current, credible and relevant content that will prepare today’s planners for tomorrow’s challenges. He will share insights into understanding the cost pressures that are affecting the hotel industry’s bottom line, as well as how hotels develop their pricing.

Mike will also share the vision of MPI, its goals and objectives and will be taking questions from the audience.

  • Attendees will learn the driving issues in the hotel industry and how that impacts meetings
  • Find out what economic conditions to expect for 2013 and beyond
  • Understand a hotel’s profit/loss statement, cost pressures and restrictions

Opening Keynote II: "Roadmap to a More Professional You: Career Management" with Dawn Rasmussen, CMP

This session strengthens your professional development and the mapping out of your career management strategies. By understanding the tools available, creating a step-by-step action plan to enhance your own skill sets, and by thinking proactively versus reactively, this session will enable you to seize opportunities and leverage them for both your current employer’s benefit as well as your own, personally.

Closing Keynote: Leadership in the Changing World of the Meeting Professional - Terri Breining

This workshop is intended to help those in attendance become more effective leaders and create work environments that are more successful, profitable and enjoyable. This will be a highly interactive session, providing participants with specific tools and techniques that will allow you to thrive as leaders in your business and community.

  • Identify blocks to effective leadership, and how to handle them
  • Determine how you can increase your influence
  • Enhance your own success by preparing and enabling those around you

Ever get the yawns when you are listening to someone else’s presentation? How about get jittery when it’s your turn on stage? This session will help you develop interesting, engaging and more importantly, MEMORABLE sessions that energize participants and encourages retention of material.

  • Organizing presentations – what to include / what not to include
  • How to visually lay out info being presented in a meaningful way
  • Proper use of visuals to enhance presentations
  • Committing to your purpose and using repetition to emphasize main points
  • Delivery tips: vocal variation / physical positioning / adding spice and eliminating bad habits
  • Adding storytelling, startling facts, jokes and more

"Creating a Winning Work Environment" presented by Theresa Breining, CMP. CMM

The workshop is intended to show those in attendance how to become more effective managers and create work environments that are more successful, profitable and enjoyable.  Topics will include:

  • Identifying some of the blocks to effective leadership, and how to handle them
  • How to increase your influence
  • Enhancing your own success by preparing and enabling those around you
  • How to hold on to good people and get the most from them

Presenter Biographies:

Dawn Rasmussen, CMP, is the president of Pathfinder Writing and Career Services based in Portland, Oregon. Clients from across the United States and Canada and from all career levels have benefited from Dawn’s highly-focused and results-oriented résumé, cover letter, and job search coaching services. Many professional groups as well as colleges and universities have appreciated the insights and expertise she shares during presentations on topics, and she is a frequently requested national speaker as a result. Dawn also shares her knowledge as the official “Get the Job” columnist for One+ Magazine distributed to over 26,000 meeting professionals worldwide, and Talentzoo.com, a job site for creative and marketing professionals. Recently, she was quoted on CBS MoneyWatch and also in the Chicago Tribune. Additionally, Dawn is a recognized career expert on Careerealism.com, which is a top-10 world contributor to TalentCulture.com’s weekly meeting #tchat ‘meeting of the career industry minds’ on Twitter. Theresa Breining, CMP, CMM is a principal with Breining Group LLC, whose focus is facilitating, training and consulting in the meeting industry.  Terri has been in the meeting planning industry since 1976, and has been responsible for producing meetings around the globe. Prior to forming Breining Group, Terri served as the founder and president of Concepts Worldwide, a meeting management firm headquartered in San Diego County for more than two decades. Concepts Worldwide was a recognized international leader in providing ROI measurement, consulting services, and full service strategic meeting management. Considered by many to be a thought leader, Terri is an activist working tirelessly on the continuous advancement of the level of professionalism in the meeting industry, and has been serving as adjunct faculty for meeting planning programs for universities throughout Southern California for over 20 years. She is a sought after speaker, presenting educational workshops for a variety of business entities, and co-authored a book with Jack Phillips, entitled Return on Investment in Meetings and Events. Her influence has been recognized many times over the years, including having her firm, Concepts Worldwide, acknowledged as a "Best Company to Work for in San Diego". She served MPI as the Chairwoman of the International Board of Directors in 2003-04, and she been included several times on the list of “Most Influential People in the Meeting Industry” by Meeting News Magazine. Most recently, she was inducted into the Convention Industry Council’s Hall of Leaders for 2010.
